Yasmeen Kazak toys with themes of self-voyeurism, refuge, intimacy, stigma, pleasure, and struggle. In many of her works she glorifies sex objects to present them as powerful tools for self-exploration, self-acceptance, and self-empowerment. At the same time, they are symbols to confront the judgment on and neglect of women’s pleasure.
She is largely inspired by her experience having struggled with shame and autonomy as a young woman, and eventually finding that her body and personal space are sacred to her.
Yasmeen is Arab-Canadian. She is based in Barrie, Ontario.
