About the Exhibition:
Self-Love: for the shameful, ugly, nasty bits celebrates the path to self-love as messy, brutal, and incompleted. The artworks focus on the artist’s own path to self-love consisting of deconstructing layers of shame —especially relating to body image, religious guilt, and mental illness.
Through intimate still-lifes, unflattering private scenes, and vulnerable text-based works, the exhibition defiantly displays what is expected to stay hidden and unspoken.
The artist’s deeply personal shameful, ugly, and nasty bits are laid bare to give the viewer an opportunity to confront and deconstruct their own.
"Shame derives its power from being unspeakable" —Brené Brown
